AG Insurance - Soudal to In Flanders Fields on Sunday.

AG Insurance - Soudal will go with confidence and motivation to the start of the rebranded Gent-Wevelgem.

The 13th edition of one of the best and most spectacular one-day races of the season takes place on Sunday. Gent-Wevelgem, which this year will be run under the name In Flanders Fields, is set to take the bunch through some exposed roads before the familiar combo of plugstreets and short but steep climbs where the race is likely to explode.

This new route amounts to 135.2 kilometers, making it the shortest edition since 2016. With the last hill - the legendary Kemmelberg - coming 35 kilometers from home, anything can happen Sunday afternoon; the attackers will get their chance to go for glory, especially if the wind will be on their side, but also the sprinters can dream of victory, if their teams manage to bring back the front group that is likely to form on the climbs before the finish in Wevelgem.

Having scored another impressive top five in Wednesday’s Ronde van Brugge, Shari Bossuyt will hope to display again the good form she has been showcasing since the start of the season and be in the mix for another solid result on home soil. The Belgian powerhouse will be joined on the start line by Fauve Bastiaenssen, Alana Castrique, Anya Louw, Ilse Pluimers, and Nicole Steigenga - a strong AG Insurance - Soudal team that can play an important role on Sunday.

“The wind, together with the plugstreets and the double ascent of the Kemmelberg, will make it a hard race. But this doesn’t scare us, as we have a good team, featuring the likes of Shari and Ilse - who have shown in the previous races just how strong they are - and Nicole, making her return to the Flemish roads”, said sports director Stijn Steels.
