On Friday, September 6, the first stage of the third edition of the Tour de Romandie kicked off. The first of three stages started in La Grande Béroche and led the riders over a hilly course of 133.8 kilometers towards the finish in Lausanne. For Ashleigh Moolman Pasio, this was her first race with the team since her crash in early June at the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya, where she suffered a vertebral fracture.

The race saw several attacks, but the peloton largely stayed together. In the final kilometer, the group of favorites, including Ashleigh Moolman Pasio, came back together, leading to a sprint. Ashleigh finished seventh, while Elisa Balsamo crossed the line first, followed by Lotte Kopecky in second and Liane Lippert in third.

Today went really well. It’s so nice to be back, racing with the team. I think we rode really well together, supporting each other, and I’m really happy to be back. I finished quite strong with a top 10 finish. It was a tough final, with the last 3 kilometers being slightly uphill the entire time. Unfortunately, I got pushed a bit by Balsamo, which threw me off slightly, maybe in the corner as well. But I’m really happy with the finish. After such a long time away from racing, I’m really pleased with how my legs are feeling. It’s great to be back with The Wolfpack, and I think tomorrow will be a great day for us”, said a satisfied Ashleigh after the race.
