Tough day under the Italian sun in Giro d’Italia Women

In the sixth stage of the Giro d’Italia Women, the AG Insurance - Soudal riders started on the coast of San Benedetto del Tronto for a challenging 159-kilometer ride with an uphill finish in the center of Chieti. The course led the peloton from one valley to another.
Kim Le Court crossed the finish line first, just behind Lotte Kopecky. Despite some stomach issues due to the heat, she managed to stay at the front all day and minimize the damage in the general classification. Kim is currently in sixth place overall.
During the race, Justine Ghekiere had a crash, but fortunately, she was able to resume and continue her race. The riders had to endure very hot temperatures throughout the day, with not a single flat section on the course.
“Today was an extremely hot, long, tough, and hectic day. Kim couldn't eat or drink all day, so it was really difficult for her. For her, it was all about surviving until the finish. In the end, we managed to limit the damage and only lost one place in the classification. Lore had to drop out due to the heat and the length of the stage. We also lost Justine at the front because of a crash. Now we are trying to recover and looking forward to tomorrow”, said Sports Director Fien Delbaere.
