AG Insurance – Soudal aan de start van Amstel Gold race

This coming Sunday, the AG Insurance – Soudal team will tackle the Amstel Gold Race, the crown jewel of Dutch one-day races. Spanning 157.4 kilometers and featuring 21 challenging climbs, this tenth edition is set to be a grueling contest. The race’s climax will be the legendary Cauberg, set to be climbed five times, the last of these ascents coming with just 1.6km to go.
In 2017, after several years' absence, the Amstel Gold Race has reestablished itself as a spring season highlight. Originating in 2001, the race was initially held for three successful editions before being temporarily discontinued. Today, it remains a prominent fixture on the calendar.
Starting in Maastricht and winding through the hilly terrain of South Limburg, the peloton will head towards a decisive finish in Valkenburg. Here, competitors like Mireia Benito, Sarah Gigante, Justine Ghekiere, Kim Le Court, Ashleigh Moolman Pasio, and Maud Rijnbeek from AG Insurance – Soudal will try to go for a good result.
“I've just returned from my first ever three-week altitude training camp, where I've been training intensely and focusing on maximizing every session. Although I love the rigor of training, I've really missed racing, so I'm thrilled to pin my numbers on my back this Sunday. Seeing my teammates' excellent performances in recent races has given me a tremendous boost of motivation for the Amstel. Amstel is also new to me, but having watched it several times, I feel it suits me well. The course is challenging, with narrow roads and hectic peloton dynamics, but I'm eager to learn and grow from the experience. We have an incredibly strong team, and our mutual understanding and positive energy will undoubtedly propel us forward. I can't wait to give it my all with and for #thewolfpack!”, said Mireia Benito, who will face the Amstel Gold race for the first time.
