A hectic finale in Copenhagen
Shari Bossuyt concluded as our best placed rider at the newest race on the World Tour calendar.
The first edition of the Copenhagen Sprint came down to a mass gallop, despite some early threats of echelons and numerous moves from those hoping to prevent the race from having this scenario. Unfortunately for the attackers, the peloton had one clear goal, and that was keeping things together until the finish line in Denmark’s capital, the host of the World Championships 14 years ago.
AG Insurance – Soudal was one of these squads, doing an impressive amount of work at the front of the bunch, and our presence there helped our riders avoid the many crashes that split the field. On the last lap of the race, things became hectic as everyone wanted to be in the best position, and this led to Nicole Steigenga losing the wheel of her teammates just before the final kilometer. In the end, it was Shari Bossuyt – making her first official appearance for AG Insurance – Soudal - who concluded as the team’s first rider home.
“We saw some good teamwork and we were always at the front when the crashes took place. Things were difficult to organise on the circuit, but our riders did a great job. Shari and Alex were of great support for Nicole, moving her up through the field for the finale. It’s a bit unfortunate that she lost the wheel at one point, but this is something from which we will all learn and become better for the next bunch sprints. Overall, I am happy with the effort and teamwork we showed here”, said sports manager Jolien D’hoore.
