A hard day at Dwars door Vlaanderen
Wednesday brought another edition of Dwars door Vlaanderen, at the start of which AG Insurance – Soudal came with a solid team motivated to go for another good result, after last Sunday’s top ten in Gent-Wevelgem.
Seven climbs and five cobblestone stretches were the difficulties of the 128.5km race which started and finished in Waregem. The day was animated by numerous attacks that made things difficult to control, but it was only with 30 kilometers to go that one of these moves, coming from Elisa Longo Borghini (UAE Team ADQ), managed to put some daylight into the others, the Italian narrowly holding off the first chasing group to take the win.
“It was a really hard day. I suffered a bit after Sunday, but I did my best to follow the early attacks. I got distanced afterwards and I’m disappointed because I wanted more from this race. It wasn’t our day, but this is cycling and it only motivates us even more for Sunday”, said Gladys Verhulst-Wild, our team’s first rider home.
