July 7th marked the start of the first stage of the Giro d’Italia Women, and the beginning of the race for AG Insurance-Soudal. The stage started and finished in Brescia, covering a distance of 15.7 kilometers. This year’s edition features a strong lineup of participants.

On the first day, Maud Rijnbeek delivered the best time for the team, finishing in 21st place with a time of 21:38 minutes and an average speed of 43.544 km/h. The victory went to Elisa Longo Borghini from Lidl – Trek.

Sport Director Jolien D’hoore spoke afterwards: “Everyone gave their maximum effort and rode well. There was no point where they could have gone faster, and fortunately, there were no crashes among our riders. For some, like Lore and Kim, it was all new. We must not forget that this is a very high level, with riders like Longo Borghini, which is immediately an Olympic level. Now the Giro d’Italia Women can really begin for us.
