AG Insurance – Soudal to Giro d’Italia Women

Our team is ready for the second Grand Tour of the year.

The picturesque Bergamo, which started out as a small settlement of the Orobii more than 2500 years ago before gradually developing and turning into one of the most important cities of Lombardia, is set to host the start of the Giro d’Italia Women.

After the 14.2km individual time trial will establish an initial pecking order on Sunday, the general classification will witness some significant changes on the uphill finish to Aprica. Pianezze, forty-eight hours later, and Monte Nerone, on the penultimate day, are the two other summit finishes, but also the hilly roads of Marche and Emilia-Romagna – the latter featuring some of the climbs that were on the course of the 2020 World Championships – should have a significant impact on the outcome. Last but not least, Trento and Monselice are the two opportunities that the sprinters will get at the race taking place between 6-13 July.

AG Insurance – Soudal, who had a strong outing at the season’s first Grand Tour, La Vuelta, will go to the start with the ambition of being again in the fight for good results. Mireia Benito, who recently won the Spanish ITT National title for the third consecutive year, Lore De Schepper, Sarah Gigante, Alexandra Manly, Gaia Masetti, the experienced Ashleigh Moolman – runner-up here in 2021 – and Urska Zigart, a top five finisher last month at the Tour de Suisse, will make up our roster for the 36th edition of the Giro.

“The course is extremely hard, with a lot of challenging stages, and that’s the reason why we are going there with so many climbers. It’s a balanced squad that can achieve some nice things not only in the mountains, but also on the flat. The riders have shown their good form recently, have a lot of motivation and are ready to display the Wolfpack spirit next week as we will give our best at this race, one of the most demanding of the season”, said sports director Stijn Steels.
