The fourth edition of the Tour de Suisse has an extended format, which will see the peloton take on 460 kilometers and 7000 vertical meters. Five stages, between 17-21 June, are on the menu next week, when the punchers, climbers, sprinters, and even the time trial specialists - after the organizers decided to introduce a stage against the clock that is sure to have a big impact on the general classification - will try to go for their chances in what will be the last World Tour race of the month.
For Kim Le Court, the Tour de Suisse will be a special race. The Mauritian Champion makes her comeback here, more than two months after the Ronde van Vlaanderen injury that derailed her spring campaign and forced her to miss some important appointments.
The 30-year-old Monument winner will be joined at the start in Sondrio by Letizia Borghesi, La Vuelta stage winner Shari Bossuyt, Belgian Champion Justine Ghekiere, Tess Moerman, and Urska Zigart, fresh from her eighth place at the Giro d’Italia, a result she took just one month after finishing sixth overall at the season’s first Grand Tour, La Vuelta Femenina.
“We have a solid team for Suisse, which will be Kim’s first race since April. We’ll take it day by day with her and see how far she can go in the general classification. Urska had a strong run at the Giro, and her presence gives us multiple cards to play. We could see Shari in the mix on stage three, while Letizia can go on the offensive and be a protagonist on the punchy finishes, but also support our GC ambitions. Justine is on her way back from injury, and Tess can learn a lot from this experience and help the squad. It’s a team that makes us confident we can get some good results”, said sports manager Jolien D’hoore.
