AG Insurance - Soudal to Trofeo Alfredo Binda

Named after the legendary Alfredo Binda - a five-time winner of the Giro d’Italia and the first rider to be victorious at the World Championships on three occasions - the prestigious Italian World Tour event returns this weekend for its 27th edition.

The 152km route is almost identical to the one of last year, which means that after starting from Luino, not far from the Swiss border, the peloton will ride along the stunning Lago Maggiore before taking on the finishing circuit in Cittiglio, which they’ll cover five times. Each lap features the Casale and Orino climbs, which should test the riders and make a selection before the business end of the race, when only seven kilometers will remain from the top of the last ascent.

Last season, AG Insurance - Soudal was present with two riders in the select group that fought for the win, taking a solid top ten, and our team will aim to be in the mix again and get another strong result. Letizia Borghesi, Lore De Schepper, Justine Ghekiere - who finished eighth here three years ago - Alexandra Manly, Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio, and Julie Van De Velde are the six riders who’ll be present at the start this Sunday.

“We know this parcours and it suits our team. What’s interesting about this race is that it can go in a number of different ways and we need to be prepared for all kinds of scenarios”, explained sports director Dani Christmas. “The amount of bad luck we had in Strade Bianche last Saturday was disappointing, but at the same time, it’s something that gives us extra motivation, and we are ready to take on this race confident in our chances.”
