Ally Wollaston tenth on stage six

Ally Wollaston has finished in tenth place on day six of the Giro Donne. She finished a few seconds behind solo stage winner Annemiek van Vleuten.
“I am happy with this result. It was a real team effort by AG Insurance – Soudal Quick-Step today,” said Ally. “The girls helped me so well. Especially Justine who brought the groups back. We have a few potential sprint days to come. It will be touch and go if it actually ends up in a sprint because there are climbs as well. I am doing well on the climbs so fingers crossed for some more opportunities in the days to come. Most important part is that I am feeling good.”
Justine Ghekiere has a bit of a rollercoaster ride in the Giro Donne where one day she manages to stay with the main contenders for the general classification and yesterday where the Belgian rider experienced an off-day. The AG Insurance-Soudal Quick-Step team in Italy is a young and relatively inexperienced group when it comes to Grand Tours so gaining experience is an important goal.
“I felt good today because I managed to do my job for Ally,” said Justine. “At the start of the stage I didn’t feel too great. Luckily that changed halfway in. I knew the finish was a good one for Ally so Blanka Vas and myself worked to bring our group back to the front in the final. The Giro Donne is a rollercoaster for me. Yesterday was hard and today was better. I look at it day by day. If I see a chance, I will most certainly take it. We are now almost a week in and I learned so many new things to take with me to next Grand Tours.”
There are three stages left in Italy. On Thursday the peloton rides from Albenga to Alassio, an uphill finish. Friday is a travel day because the final two stages take part on the island of Sardinia.
