Ashleigh Moolman Pasio claims gold at the African Championships

On Saturday, October 12, 2024, Ashleigh Moolman Pasio, rider for AG Insurance - Soudal, secured an impressive victory in the road race of the African Championships.

The race took place on a challenging 104,4 kilometer course in Kenya, that led the riders from Eldoret to Iten, that is renowned for its altitude and steep climbs.

With this victory, Moolman Pasio crowned herself African road champion for the fifth time, a remarkable achievement that reaffirms her status as one of the top athletes on the African continent.

“I'm really happy with today's result, especially after such a tough season. It feels great to finish the year with a solo victory and to win the African Continental Championships. It's an honor to bring the jersey to Europe and proudly represent the African continent in the European peloton.

Today was a tough race, especially with the altitude at 2400 meters, which made it even more challenging. Sometimes it's hard to win these races when you're heavily marked, but I timed my attack perfectly and crossed the finish line with a significant lead, which I’m really proud of.

The race was big and very well-organized, and I’m truly impressed with Kenya. It's also amazing to see the development of young talent, especially the strong under-23 riders coming through in South Africa. It was an incredibly positive experience and the perfect way to close out the season”, said an enthusiastic Ashleigh Moolman Pasio after her race.
