After a challenging recovery period, Ashleigh Moolman Pasio is ready to shine again in the cycling season. In an exclusive interview, she shares her insights and ambitions. Although illness forced her to miss La Vuelta Femenina, she looks forward to the upcoming races with confidence and enthusiasm.

How do you feel now, after your recovery period? How were the preparations?

“I feel really good now. I had a great training block and I got some good time at home with my family and my dogs. I feel renewed and ready for the next part of the season. I’m really looking forward to racing again because it has been quite a while.”

How difficult was it for you to miss the Vuelta Femenina?

“The period of illness was very challenging. First, I had a severe throat infection, for which I had to take antibiotics—something I always try to avoid because of its impact on the body. And just as I recovered from the throat infection, I caught a stomach bug. So it was a really tough period. Missing a major season goal like La Vuelta was very difficult and a huge disappointment, but I always try to stay positive and look forward.”

What are your expectations and goals for the upcoming race? Which specific stages are you most looking forward to and why?

“The next race on my schedule is the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya, a three-day stage race in the region where I live. I know the roads there very well, especially the second stage, the queen stage. This is the area where I do my altitude training, so I am very familiar with the climbs. It’s not a World Tour race, but it offers a great opportunity for the team to come together, race hard, and try new things in hopes of achieving the best results.”

Are there specific aspects of the race you have paid extra attention to in your preparation?

“I’ve focused a lot on recovering and rebuilding my strength after the illness. Although I couldn’t immediately benefit from my altitude training in previous races, I believe it has now brought me to a higher level. I’m starting the second part of the season at a higher level and building on that. This gives me a lot of confidence for the upcoming races.”
