Best Climber’s Jersey for Justine Ghekiere in Giro d’Italia Women

On Saturday, the penultimate day of the Giro d’Italia Women, the riders of AG Insurance – Soudal faced a big challenge with a significant elevation gain. The stage from Lanciano to Blockhaus, covering 120 kilometers, presented the riders with another grueling race under the scorching heat. After climbing the Passo Lanciano twice and with a final ascent on the mythical Blockhaus, Justine Ghekiere captured the mountains jersey.

"After a few tough weeks, I can't describe how happy I am to take this mountains jersey. Yesterday, I was involved in a crash and had to spend a long time in the hospital, making me think today would be terrible. In the end, my legs were fine; I really had the power and gave it everything I had. I went all out for the points and managed to get them. I even managed to save some energy for tomorrow and hope I can take this jersey home," said a delighted Justine after the finish.

The heat has already taken a toll on many riders in this edition of the Giro, including three riders from AG Insurance – Soudal today. Maud, Marthe, and Julia had to abandon the race due to the extreme weather conditions.
