Strong team effort sees Shari Bossuyt sprint to fifth in opening stage of Vuelta a Burgos Féminas
AG Insurance - Soudal opened the first stage of the Vuelta a Burgos Féminas with a solid collective performance, finishing the day with a strong top five result in the bunch sprint.
After a controlled stage that ultimately came down to a fast finish, it was Shari Bossuyt who powered her way to fifth place after being perfectly positioned by her teammates in the final kilometres.
Throughout the day, the team showed a strong and united performance, staying attentive in the bunch and working well together to keep Shari in contention for the finale. The opening stage offered an important first test for the squad, which handled the fast and nervous race conditions in a positive way.
“It was quite a calm stage today overall. At a crucial moment on one of the climbs, I had a puncture, but thanks to the team I was able to come back without wasting too much energy. The final was really hectic because the stage had been controlled for so long, so everyone was still quite fresh heading into the finish. Alex Manly positioned me perfectly into the last corner and then it was up to me.
I maybe timed my sprint a bit too soon by launching with around 350 to 400 metres to go, but a fifth place still gives a lot of motivation for tomorrow. The parcours is quite similar again tomorrow, so we’re looking forward to fighting for the victory once more”, said Shari Bossuyt after the finish.
With another sprint opportunity awaiting tomorrow, the team is already looking ahead with confidence and motivation for what the rest of the week in Spain may bring.
