Kim Le Court-Pienaar takes Tour de France yellow jersey

An historic day for AG Insurance – Soudal and African cycling at the biggest race in the world.

Kim Le Court-Pienaar donned the iconic yellow jersey at the end of the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift second stage, etching her name in the history books of the event as the first rider from outside of Europe to lead the race.

Runner-up on the inaugural day, the 29-year-old produced another fantastic ride on the hilly roads of Bretagne, concluding a strong third on the punchy finish in Quimper and getting four seconds of bonification that elevated her to the top of the general classification. The Liège–Bastogne–Liège winner, who has recently extended her contract with AG Insurance – Soudal until the end of 2028, became the first African woman to lead a Grand Tour, an achievement that left her speechless.

“It’s amazing, just amazing! I don’t know what to say. I’m still a bit shocked, because I had no idea I was in yellow after the finish and was ready to go to the bus to cool down, only for my team to tell me the news. I couldn’t believe it when I heard the news, I’ll definitely need some time for everything to sink in!”

“There’s a lot of emotions after this day. I want to thank the entire team for their help, because without them this wouldn’t have been possible. I am proud of this achievement and happy, at the same time. It’s an incredible day for myself, for our amazing AG Insurance – Soudal squad and my country. We’re here to do a good general classification and we’ll do our best for this, but at the same time, I want to also win a stage after being twice on the podium and I am motivated to fight for this”, said after the podium ceremony the Mauritius Champion, who’ll wear the yellow jersey for the first time during Monday’s stage between Le Gacilly and Angers.
