Kim Le Court to make Flèche Wallonne and Liège–Bastogne–Liège debut
The 29-year-old will focus on the Ardennes Classics in the next couple of weeks.
It goes without saying that Kim Le Court is one of the riders who have impressed the most in these first months of the season. It couldn’t be any different, given his incredible consistency and string of results since starting her second year in the AG Insurance – Soudal jersey.
A solid third overall at the UAE Tour followed by a top ten in Trofeo Alfredo Binda were just the appetizers of what was to come at Milano-Sanremo and Ronde van Vlaanderen. The first two Monuments of the calendar are two races so different that there aren’t many riders in the world who can be in the mix in both. As a matter of fact, Kim was one of the only two riders to finish inside the top ten at both Sanremo and De Ronde, taking fifth on the Via Roma before repeating that result in Oudenaarde, after taming the cobbles, just a few weeks later.
Following last Sunday’s race, the Mauritius Champion has decided together with the team to change her schedule for the coming weeks and focus on the Ardennes Classics. Last year, Kim made her Amstel Gold Race debut, and although things didn’t go as planned, she will return at the start of the one-day race. From there, Le Court will travel to Belgium for her maiden appearance in Flèche Wallonne and Liège–Bastogne–Liège, two of the most prestigious Classics of the season.
“I’ve made the tough decision to skip Paris-Roubaix and focus fully on the Ardennes Classics. It wasn’t an easy decision, especially after finishing tenth last year at my debut, but I believe I’m capable of a good result in the Ardennes. I’m grateful the team fully supports this decision, it means a lot and I can’t wait to discover Flèche Wallonne and Liège–Bastogne–Liège”, Kim said.
AG Insurance – Soudal sports manager Jolien D’hoore added: “We adjusted Kim’s program together with our performance staff so she can focus on the three Ardennes Classics. By doing this, she can have the best preparation, including another training block, going into these demanding one-day races. We are happy with her performances so far, and the spring isn’t over yet, as we’re ready to tackle the next few races with the same motivation.”
