Letizia Borghesi fifth in Trofeo Alfredo Binda after strong team display

AG Insurance - Soudal delivered an impressive collective performance at the Trofeo Alfredo Binda - Comune di Cittiglio, with Letizia Borghesi sprinting to an excellent fifth place.

The Italian one-day race covered 152 kilometres from Luino to Cittiglio, featuring the demanding finishing circuit that the riders tackled several times, including the climbs of Casale and Orino, which traditionally shape the finale of the race.

AG Insurance - Soudal approached the race with a clear plan and rode aggressively from the opening kilometres. Alexandra Manly and Julie Van De Velde ensured the team remained well positioned in the peloton during the early phases of the race, keeping the squad safe and ready as the race intensified.

As the race entered the decisive circuits around Cittiglio, the pace increased and the peloton began to split on the repeated climbs. Justine Ghekiere was among the riders who made it into the first key group, while behind, the team worked hard to bring Letizia Borghesi back into contention.

A strong effort from Lore De Schepper, Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio and their teammates proved decisive, helping Borghesi return to the front group and rejoin the battle for the top places.

In the final kilometres, an attacking trio managed to stay clear and fight for the victory, while the chasing peloton prepared for the sprint behind. In the fight for the remaining positions, Borghesi showed her speed to cross the line fifth, finishing second in the bunch sprint after a hard-fought race.

The result capped a strong collective effort from the team on the challenging Italian course and confirmed the good form of the squad during the Spring Classics campaign.

“Fifth in Binda is a result to be proud of. We did a great job as a team and for sure in the final. Unfortunately we weren't in the final breakaway but in the end we showed a great performance to go for the best possible result in the end, what succeeded. Finishing second in the group sprint after a hard race is a great result for the team", reacted a happy Letizia Borghesi after the race.

AG Insurance - Soudal will now look ahead to the upcoming races of the spring season with confidence after another solid performance on the WorldTour stage.
