Letizia Borghesi sprints to fourth place at Antwerp Port Epic
AG Insurance - Soudal delivered another fighting performance on the tough roads of the Antwerp Port Epic, where Letizia Borghesi sprinted to fourth place after an attritional and chaotic afternoon featuring countless gravel and cobbled sectors.
The fourth edition of the Belgian race once again lived up to its reputation as one of the hardest one-day races on the calendar. Over 141 kilometres, the peloton was constantly under pressure on the narrow roads, gravel passages and cobbled sectors around Antwerp, where positioning and attentiveness proved crucial throughout the day.
AG Insurance - Soudal raced aggressively from the beginning and remained active at the front of the race during the decisive moments. Despite the strong teamwork and constant presence near the head of the peloton, the team unfortunately missed the race-winning move when a select group managed to break clear in the final phase of the race.
Behind the leaders, the remaining riders battled for the minor placings in a reduced sprint. Letizia Borghesi showed her strong form once again by powering to fourth place after another resilient ride on Belgian soil.
“tI was a positive day with good feelings and strong legs in a super hard race. I just missed the podium in a photo finish, but after being involved in several attacks throughout the day, I gave everything all the way to the line, so I have no regrets. A big thanks to my teammates as well for controlling the race and the attacks before the sprint”, Letizia said after the finish.
The team once again demonstrated its collective strength and attacking spirit throughout the demanding race, with several riders playing an important role across the gravel sectors and in the positioning fight heading into the finale.
