Mireia Benito close to the top ten in Burgos

Our rider scored her best result of the season in a stage race.

AG Insurance – Soudal’s Mireia Benito concluded a solid week of racing at the Vuelta a Burgos by taking a good result in the general classification, which was shaped by the hard Picon Blanco summit finish and the individual time trial between Villasana de Mena and Lezana de Mena.

The stage against the clock, scheduled on the last day of the competition, was a short one, just shy of ten kilometers, and Mireia – a two-time National Champion of the discipline – left everything out there despite some sickness which prevented her from going full gas, recording on the line a time of 14:03, thanks to an average speed of 40.18km/h. This display helped her finish 12th on the general classification, only ten seconds separating the Spaniard from the top ten.

“I’m not content with today’s ITT. Like many other riders, I’ve been struggling with allergies and it got worse every day, but even in these conditions, I wanted to remain optimistic and give my best. Normally I love time trials, but today I couldn’t find a moment to enjoy it and this makes me sad. Our squad really deserved a good result this week, but having bad days is unfortunately part of the game. Overall, we can be proud of the way we raced as a team this week and how we helped each other the entire time”, Mireia said after the race.
