In the fourth edition of the Scheldeprijs, known for its flat course that sprinters hold dear, Mirre Knaven of the AG Insurance-Soudal U23 team showcased her sprinting power. The race, which started and ended on Churchilllaan in Schoten, took the riders over a distance of 130.5 kilometers on Antwerp territory.

Despite the very strong field of participants, Mirre Knaven excellently positioned herself for the final sprint. This came after a race in which the peloton ultimately regrouped and prepared for a mass sprint. Several crashes occurred during the race, including the one of AG Insurance-Soudal’s Noëlle Rüetschi, who had to abandon.

“It feels really good and totally unexpected. In the last kilometer, I had used up quite a bit of energy, which made me think that getting involved in the sprint was no longer an option. But once the sprint started, I suddenly realized I was on my way to a top five. So, it turned out better than expected! Overall, the race went quite smoothly for me, although it was a bit more challenging for my teammates since they always had to respond to attacks. I was able to stay calm in the peloton. It was the strategy that either I or Laura Lisette would sprint. During the race, Laura opted for the attack, leaving me to put everything on the sprint”, shared an enthusiastic Mirre Knaven.
