AG Insurance - Soudal rider Auke De Buysser secured a commendable third place on Sunday morning in the Piccolo Trofeo Alfredo Binda, a 74.4-kilometer race on Italian soil between Maccagno con Pino e Veddasca and Cittiglio.

The Piccolo Trofeo Alfredo Binda is part of the Nations Cup for juniors, where national teams compete for the overall victory. Since 2018, the AG Insurance - Soudal junior team has been one of the few teams annually invited to these Nations Cup races, which is an achievement in itself.

After the victory, a visibly happy Auke said: “The start was a bit chaotic, but I managed to move forward afterward. Suddenly, there was a crash in front of me, causing me to fall back completely and I had to close a gap. I always tried to be at the front on the climbs, so that if I had to drop back, I wouldn’t be positioned too far behind. In the last lap, I was a bit dropped, but we were still with five and managed to catch up, after which I could sprint for a third place. I'm really happy, as I did not expect this with such strong opponents.”
