AG Insurance – Soudal to Amstel Gold Race
Amstel Gold Race – with its hard 157.4km course featuring 22 climbs, some of which have steep gradients – awaits the peloton this Sunday. The first of the Ardennes Classics should make again for a nervous and action-packed day long before the finish that comes just 500 meters from the top of the iconic Cauberg, the climb that is synonymous to this prestigious one-day race.
Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio, who has finished in the top ten at each of the previous four editions, will make her first outing since Milano-Sanremo in the AG Insurance – Soudal colors and is excited to be back in action: “I’m really looking forward to the Ardennes Classics. After a solid block of training at home, I feel that I am ready for Sunday. It's been almost a year since I last felt truly like myself on the bike. This time last year I was in great form for the Ardennes, but soon after a complicated period followed and the road back hasn’t been easy. Now, after some consistent training, I can finally say with confidence that I’m back and can’t wait to give it everything together with my team.”
Joining the experienced South African on our roster will be Kim Le Court, one of the most impressive and consistent riders in the first month of the season, who finished a remarkable top five at both Milano-Sanremo and Ronde van Vlaanderen in the past couple of weeks: “I’m happy to be back on these roads. Last year, my race ended earlier than planned, but now I am really excited to be on the start line again and I hope for a better experience to my Amstel Gold Race experience than last season. We went on a recon on Friday and I am feeling confident in our chances of doing a good race.”
Rounding out AG Insurance – Soudal’s squad for Sunday are Mireia Benito, Julia Borgström, Alexandra Manly and Gladys Verhulst-Wild.
“Amstel is a special race. We go there with a strong team ready to fight for a nice result. The Wolfpack have a good history here with Ashleigh, while Kim has shown in recent weeks that she is in solid shape. Together with a motivated team, we are looking forward to what should be an exciting race”, added sports director Dani Christmas.
