Marthe Goossens shines with podium after controlled race performance at Le Samyn.
After the strong weekend from Shari Bossuyt, it was once again a Belgian rider who stepped up for AG Insurance - Soudal. This time, all eyes were on Marthe Goossens.
From early on, the race struggled to find its rhythm. The opening phase was marked by several crashes, disrupting the flow and keeping the peloton nervous. It took time before the decisive move went clear. When a group of ten riders finally broke away, the race truly ignited.
Goossens made sure she was in the right place at the right time, positioning herself attentively and riding with maturity. She stayed calm while others in the lead group tested the waters with repeated accelerations.
Rather than reacting to every move, Goossens chose a measured approach. She saved energy, trusted her sprint and focused on staying composed. It was a calculated gamble in a final where legs and timing would decide everything. In the closing sprint, she delivered. Only one rider proved faster on the day, leaving Goossens with an impressive second place and a well deserved podium finish.
“I’m really happy with this second place at Le Samyn des Dames. It was a tough race, especially in the final with the strong attacks coming from the other riders in the leading group. But I knew I had good sprinting legs today, so I kept fighting to stay well positioned in the break, and in the end it paid off. I think I really gave it everything out there. The team did an amazing job as well and delivered a very strong performance.” Concludes Marthe with a big smile.
