Strong Team Performance and QOM Jersey for Sarah Gigante in Tour de Suisse Opener

The Tour de Suisse kicked off today with a challenging opening stage, and our team immediately showed collective strength. On the tough climbs, Sarah Gigante and Urška Žigart managed to stay with the best climbers in the peloton on the second climb of the day, followed shortly after by Mireia Benito and Lore De Schepper, both delivering solid performances on the mountainous terrain.

After descent of the second climb, Demi Vollering and Marlen Reusser launched a decisive move and battled for the stage win. Urška chased in a strong second group alongside Kasia Niewiadoma and Niamh Fisher-Black, all taking turns at the front, but the gap couldn't be closed. Urška sprinted to a great fifth place in the final standings.

An additional highlight came from Sarah Gigante, who claimed the most mountain points and was rewarded with the Queen of the Mountains (QOM) jersey. She will proudly wear the red jersey in tomorrow’s stage.

With three of our riders finishing inside the top 15 of the general classification – Urška in 5th, Mireia in 9th, and Lore in 15th – the team is well-positioned and motivated for the stages ahead.

Urška Žigart: "It was hard, but it was FUN too! I felt great today at the second climb of the day and to climb with the best climbers in the race was a great feeling. Also Sarah was in the group what made it even more nice!

In the end I had cramps so I couldn’t really sprint for a podium. But I really tried my best and gave my all today. And I’m especially happy that I could improve a little bit my descending, so overall I’m super happy."

Sarah Gigante: "It’s super nice to get rewarded with the QOM jersey today after our performance. We rode a super strong race with the team. Going to the summit of the second climb we created a gap with 5 other girls, including Urška. At the top I could take to full amount of points, what rewarded in the red QOM jersey. I can't wait to wear it in tomorrow's stage."
