Best-ever Tour finish for Shari Bossuyt
Best-ever Tour finish for Shari Bossuyt.
Shari Bossuyt delivered her best result to date at the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift by finishing an impressive fourth on Stage 2 in Geneva. The AG Insurance - Soudal Team rider produced a strong sprint to cross the line behind stage winner Lorena Wiebes, Elisa Balsamo and Marianne Vos.
After a strong executed lead-out from her teammates, Bossuyt entered the technical finale in an excellent position before launching her sprint out of the final corner. Although she narrowly missed out on the podium, fourth place marks her strongest finish yet at the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift. During her debut in the race last year, she recorded two sixth-place finishes.
"The team positioned me perfectly and after the final corner it was up to me. Then it was a matter of seeing where I would end up," said Bossuyt after the stage.
The Belgian knew exactly where she had to make her move in the closing metres.
"I knew I had to launch my sprint immediately after the final corner. That was my only chance of getting a good result."
After a more difficult opening stage, the result provided a welcome confidence boost.
"I definitely felt better than yesterday. I'm taking a lot of confidence from today because I was able to ride my own sprint. Hopefully this is the start of a strong week for us."
Bossuyt's fourth place in Geneva represents another step forward in her Tour de France Femmes campaign and gives both rider and team plenty of confidence heading into the remaining stages of the race.
