Top five for Shari Bossuyt in Ronde van Brugge

AG Insurance - Soudal once again showcased their strength, delivering a strong team effort that brought another good result.

Shari Bossuyt continues to display a remarkable consistency and form as we prepare for one of the most important periods of the year - the Spring Classics season. Going into Ronde van Brugge, her fifth race of the year, the strong Belgian had a string of top ten results scored in all her previous outings, from Vuelta Feminas and Omloop Het Nieuwsblad to Hageland and Nokere Koerse.

Our leader for Thursday’s World Tour race, Shari didn’t disappoint as she secured a fifth place at the end of a hard day in the saddle. The course was pretty straightforward, flat and peppered by just three cobblestone segments, but the weather was a challenge for the riders, who had to overcome low temperatures, rain and the winds that constantly threatened to disrupt the peloton.

The anticipated echelons failed to materialize, but the bunch remained nervous as they approached the closing kilometers of the race. AG Insurance - Soudal took control at the head of the group as they passed under the flamme rouge, and brought Bossuyt in a good position, from where the 25-year-old sprinted to our team’s best ever result at the Ronde van Brugge.

“It was a tough race, but the team did a fantastic job and I am proud of them. In retrospect, maybe I could have done better in the sprint, but to be in the top five here is still a good result. I want to thank Ilse for her fantastic lead-out, as without her I wouldn’t have been up there. It’s the kind of race from where we can take a lot of confidence going into the next Classics”, Shari said at the finish.
