Top Ten for Ally Wollaston in the fifth stage of the Simac Ladies Tour
The fifth stage of the Simac Ladies Tour took place, started and finished in Doetinchem, over a 140-kilometer course. It took 65 kilometers gfor the first attack to come from the peloton, but the breakaway stay clear until 14 kilometers from the finish.
The race ended in a bunch sprint, where Ally Wollaston of AG Insurance – Soudal, crossed the line in sixth place. She was the first from her team to finish and positioned herself well in the fast-paced finale in stage win by Lorena Wiebes.
“Today was relatively calm, especially in the first two hours. Towards the finale, you could see that many teams wanted to avoid a bunch sprint and aimed for a tougher finish. Of course, we had a tough day yesterday, so today we played it a bit more cautiously and stayed alert. When larger groups went, we always had someone there, which was good. In the finale, we naturally went for the sprint with Ally.
In the last kilometer, there was a crash, luckily on the left side, so none of our riders were involved. In the end, Ally sprinted to sixth place. Unfortunately, she was on the wrong side of another rider's wheel, which caused her to get boxed in and she had to wait before she could come around and start her sprint.
Sixth is a good result, and for Ally, it was great to be back in the mix in a bunch sprint. It’s positive for her, and we as a team are happy with the sixth place. Now on to tomorrow, the final day”, said Sports director Fien Delbaere.
