Urska Zigart top five at the Tour de Suisse

The Slovenian Champion took her best result of the season at the four-day World Tour race.

Urska Zigart concluded the Tour de Suisse an impressive five overall, thanks to a solid and consistent ride this week, backed by a superb and selfless teamwork that helped the 28-year-old gain two positions in the general classification at the end of the demanding final stage.

Seventh at the start of the day, Zigart benefited from the great support of AG Insurance – Soudal teammate Sarah Gigante once the GC fight exploded on the steep gradients of Michaelskreuz, in the closing 17 kilometers. The Australian, who recently made her return to competition from injury, remained with Urska when the peloton got fragmented and took some long pulls that helped the small group they were part of increase their lead over the chasers.

In Küssnacht, where the stage concluded, the Slovenian Champion arrived with a hefty gap over the next group, which allowed her to move up to fifth place in the standings and make it a hat-trick of consecutive top ten overall finishes at the Tour de Suisse – one of the most important stage races on the World Tour calendar.

“These were some hard days of racing, so of course, I’m very happy to conclude in the top five from such a stacked field of climbers. Coming in, we knew we had a strong team to go on the offensive in all the stages, but then, with the general classification exploding on the very first day of the race, we saw there might be a chance for a good result in the end.”

“I am very grateful to the team for their belief in me and the amazing support in my bid for one of the top places on the classification. Each and every girl was amazing throughout the race, as was the staff, always helping us on these hot days here in Suisse and making things easier. I’m glad I could repay them all with such a good result”, a happy Urska said after the race.
