AG Insurance - Soudal concludes strong week of racing with top 10 for Borghesi.

Valencia welcomed the peloton for the final day of Setmana Femenina, giving the riders a chance to fight for victory or to improve their general classification after the strong winds forced the organisers to cancel the previous stage.

On Sunday, the bunch took on a 177km course from Sagunt to Valencia, which featured some rolling roads and the challenging ascent of Port de l’Oronet. It was there that the original breakaway was caught and the peloton split as soon as the favourites made their moves. Two riders went clear, but on the descent, they were joined by three more, and that group ended up working well together and holding off the chasers.

Those behind arrived 15 seconds later, and Letizia Borghesi sprinted to tenth on the stage won by Demi Vollering (FDJ United-Suez), another strong result in the AG Insurance – Soudal jersey for the Italian after the podium she scored on the second day of the competition.

“We can look back to a positive race at the Setmana Ciclista, with a podium and a top-10 finish. Of course it was a pity that the queen stage was cancelled, especially as we brought a predominantly climbing-focused team. Letizia’s crash in the opening stage also took her out of the GC battle, which was unfortunate. But there were many positives: it’s great to see how quickly Letizia has settled into the team and how comfortable she already feels within the group. Our Devo riders climbed alongside the world’s best, and that should give them a huge boost of confidence for the rest of the season”, said sports director Stijn Steels.

“Today was again a great performance of the team. It almost gives me goosebumps to think about last week, how every one of the team supported me during my first road race with AG Insurance - Soudal. I really can’t wait for this upcoming season and the races to come”, said a proud Letizia Borghesi.
