During the 21st edition of the Tour of Flanders, where riders faced poor weather conditions - heavy rain and strong wind - Justine Ghekiere of AG Insurance - Soudal put in a strong performance. The course, known for its twelve climbs and seven cobblestone sections spread over 163 kilometers, set the stage for a heroic day in women's cycling.

With 151 kilometers to go, Justine launched the first attack of the day, a courageous move that took her deep into the race. After another short solo attack 53 kilometers from the finish, she was caught by the pursuing peloton on the notorious Koppenberg, the steepest climb of the race.

“Right from kilometer ten, I chose to attack, with the Koppenberg as my main target. I felt strong, and at one point, I even went solo, perfectly positioned to take the turn towards the Koppenberg first. It went surprisingly well. I was right behind Lotte Kopecky, in an ideal position, when I had a mechanical. That was a pity, because I really felt in form and believed I had a place in the finale. Unfortunately, it didn't end as I had hoped, but my condition is excellent. I'm looking forward to proving this in my next race”, said Justine Ghekiere.
